I’m Tangela.

Who I am

Author, Speaker, Thinker

I am a social worker, writer, mother, favorite auntie to many, and mental health advocate. She enjoys using her unique voice to share the experiences of Black Women and Femmes in America. Tangela is the author of two books, Sad, Black, And Fat: Musings from the intersection (2021) and Brazen, Black, and Free: Further Musings from the Intersection (2024). Her passion for teaching and learning has allowed her to obtain degrees in sociology and special education. When not looking for effective self-care strategies, she enjoys gardening, gaming, and crochet.

What People think.

Tangela Williams-Spann is an accomplished writer known for her insightful storytelling and keen ability to connect with readers. With a diverse portfolio that encompasses fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, she explores themes of identity, resilience, and community. Her work is characterized by a neutral tone that allows for deep reflection and understanding, inviting audiences to consider multiple perspectives. Tangela’s passion for writing is matched by her commitment to fostering a love for literature in others, making her a prominent voice in contemporary writing.

“Tangela was a delight to work with. I worked with her twice on two book publishing projects and some small essay writing projects throughout the course of our three year professional relationship. What I thoroughly enjoy is her writing style and the efficiency she has in making sure she meets deadlines, goals, and expectations.

She is so candid in her writing, the information she is willing to share as an author is bold, thought provoking, and colorful. She knows how to engage you as a reader into a story that’s never boring and sticks with you forever. She is a forever learner, open to critiques and willing to take a second look to pull the message out of herself to give to others. It is my hope to always partner with her to tell her stories.”
